The Global Super League has been rescheduled for July of this year, and the reigning Big Bash League (BBL) champions Hobart Hurricanes are expected to send a squad to Guyana.
After the Hurricanes won the BBL for the first time this January, they were invited to compete in the GSL. Their participation would make them the second Australian team to compete in the competition; last year, in December, Cricket Victoria sent a squad that played in state colors.
During Australia's domestic season, Victoria finished second with a squad led by former New Zealand all-rounder Corey Anderson, which included current Netherlands captain Scott Edwards and a few development players.
Cricket Tasmania will field as strong a side as they can muster and send a team to play under the Hurricanes banner. The competition will occur in July during Australia's Caribbean Test trip, right before the country's five-match Twenty20 International series against the West Indies.
Beau Webster is an Australian Test all-rounder who was signed by the Hurricanes. He may be disqualified if he goes on a Caribbean tour. The West Indies T20I tour is probably going to include Tim David and Nathan Ellis, two regulars for Australia. Riley Meredith is an additional candidate for that series.
The GSL tournament dates may be rescheduled in subsequent years; February has been suggested as a possible option. It would be extremely difficult for Australian teams to compete if that were done. Due to the December date, the Western Australia/Perth Scorchers were invited to play last year, but turned it down.
