FOXBOROUGH, Mass - Will Campbell was born and raised in Louisiana, even deciding to play college ball at LSU.
So, the move to New England is certainly an interesting one for the Patriots' first-round pick. And he detailed what surprised him most about his new home when speaking with reporters after rookie minicamp.
“I was surprised there’s trees,” Campbell stated. “I had never been anywhere up here before, so I always thought this was a little bit closer to Boston and there was a bunch of big city buildings and stuff like that.
“When I got out here and they picked me up from the airport I was like, ‘Dang, there’s a lot of trees out here.’ I wasn’t expecting that,” he added.
But that's not all. Another big change is the weather.
“It’s probably the coldest weather I’ve been in awhile, so it’s nice,” Campbell told reporters.
However, while this is all coming as a surprise, he is focused on one thing and one thing only.
"I'm worried about football right now.,” Campbell said. “We'll worry about fun later."
And he had one clear message after his first practice with the coaching staff.
“It’s football … You’re going to make mistakes,” Campbell explained. “The team that makes the least amount of them is the team that’s going to win. I’m just trying to limit my mistakes, learn as much as I can from the coaches.”
Campbell is already proving to be the type of player the values team and the game over all else, which is exactly what the Patriots needs after their struggles in recent years.
Now, he's just got to get used to the trees and it'll all be perfect!
