Inter defender Stefan de Vrij came off during the second half of yesterday evening’s Champions League win over Barcelona with a calf problem.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, who report that it will remain to be seen whether the problem is serious enough to cause the 30-year-old to miss any matches for the Nerazzurri.

De Vrij started for the first time in three matches, coming into the heart of Inter’s back three for Francesco Acerbi against the Blaugranas.

The Dutchman gave a good account of himself to keep Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski quiet and help his team to a clean sheet, but had to come off for Acerbi during the second half.

According to Tuttosport, this was because the defender had felt some discomfort in his right calf.

Tests should reveal whether there is any significant injury that could rule de Vrij out for any length of time, or whether this was just a precaution.
