1. Denver CityWide Sports 

Enjoy sports such as basketball, kickball, and flag football when you join up with Denver CityWide Sports, which partners with Denver Parks & Recreation. There are over 100 parks to access and 28 recreation centers, providing a mix of venues and atmospheres to play. 

If you or your children are into tennis, there are adult and youth tennis leagues. There are a variety of tennis lessons and play formats where you’ll get to play against fellow advanced players or beginners if you’re new to the game. 

You can also host corporate, private leagues and tournaments as well as charity events, teaming up with local community initiatives to give back to Denver. 

2. Volo Sports 

Get active and get social by joining up with Volo Sports and its wide array of adult sports leagues for those looking to get fit in the Denver area. 

If you’re looking for casual sporting activities with some competitive edge, Volo Sports has soccer, basketball, volleyball, skeeball, and bocce leagues, among others. There’s also an hour-long yoga class if you need to Zen out before or after a game, which is one of the club’s more unique features.

Starting in 2012, Volo Sports hosts social events, corporate sports events, and a sponsor bar offering discounted food and liquor as you meet fellow players. 

3. Sports Monster Denver 

This ‘Monster’ isn’t here to scare you but to help you ease your fears of competition and socializing with leagues and events to integrate you with the Denver community.

Operating since 1994, Sports Monster Denver boasts 13 adult sports leagues ranging from flag football to floor hockey to golf and more. There are also some interestingly named tournaments such as the Do It For Momma basketball tournament for men and co-eds. 

There’s also the Improper City Pub Games tournament, featuring beer games and social events. You can even score tickets to Colorado Rapids games when you participate in a league.

4. Kick In For a Cause 

Avid kickball players can “Kick In For a Cause” with this popular kickball league that stresses comradery more than the competition. 

This recreational league requires you to have a cup in hand, keeping you buzzed while enjoying the buzz surrounding this fun sport. It’s a co-ed and charity-benefiting league, with a portion of your $60 registration fee going to the Challenged Athletes Foundation and the Colorado Children’s Hospital. 

You play once each week for seven weeks, with no playoffs. Founded in 2003, Kick In For a Cause is all about taking the seriousness out of kickball and making it fun for all.

5. Better Off Bowling 

Throughout the year, Better Off Bowling’s Denver leagues take shape, with matchups putting teams of 6 to 10 people up against each other. 

Leagues take place at Lucky Strike in downtown Denver, with six weeks of bowling (one to three games per week). After each game week, there’s an after-bowling bar where you can socialize and play bar games such as Jenga, Cards Against Humanity, and more. 

There are Sunday leagues taking place between April and June as well. Furthermore, there are Wednesday evening leagues between June and July as well as in October and November at Bowlero Lakewood.

6. GO Kickball

Another kickball initiative to consider is GO Kickball, which also preaches playing for the fun of it.

This social sports league in Denver is a co-ed league that combines sports with social media networking. The league is interactive as you can play and network at the same time, meeting people while posting your kickball exploits on Twitter and Instagram for all to see. 

It also stands out for its theme weeks, where you can play while wearing costumes or a specific wardrobe to mark the occasion. Plus, there are social events and drink-ups throughout the season, which usually kicks off in March. 

7. Mile High Ultimate 

Arguably the biggest Frisbee league in Denver, Mile High Ultimate boasts a variety of Frisbee leagues, depending on the skill and competition levels. 

There is Wednesday recreational and semi-competitive draft league as well as a Thursday recreational team league. Alternatively, there is a fully competitive Frisbee league on Mondays and a semi-competitive Tuesday league. You can also participate in pickup games across Denver, including at Valmont City Park, Central Park in Stapleton, among other venues. 

If your team wins, Mile High Ultimate will induct you into its Hall of Champions.

8. Rocky Mountain Hockey League 

When the Colorado Avalanche’s season is over, the Rocky Mountain Hockey League can satisfy your ice hockey craving. Colorado’s premier adult hockey league since its inception in 1990, the RMHL is a recreational league with an 11-game summer season running from May to August, followed by a single-elimination tournament. There is also a 20-game winter season running from September until March each year. 

There are multiple divisions for all skill levels, including a 40+ division if you’re looking to play with other older folks. No checking is allowed, making it strictly about playing and having fun while showing off your skating and puck-moving abilities. 

9. The Ice Ranch

Based in Littleton, just a few miles south of Downtown Denver, The Ice Ranch has a plethora of adult hockey leagues that mainly consist of two to six teams. Teams consist of 11-15 players, plus a goalie. And, if you’re a captain or the goaltender, you play for free. Those are the perks of playing two of ice hockey’s most important roles. 

There are lunch leagues for men and women, plus tournaments, public skates, and Santoro’s, where you can enjoy fresh food and watch hockey on the big screen. 

10. Sport Stable 

Located in Superior, Sport Stable is one of Denver’s most noteworthy sports clubs, with games taking place indoors, outdoors, and on turf. 

Leagues offered at Sport Stable’s complex include volleyball, basketball, and futsal. The adult volleyball league is particularly popular. It’s a four-on-four co-ed league, with the only stipulation being that two women be on the court at all times. It kicks off in October, and post-game, you can buy a beer and get another free by Sport Stable’s restaurant. 

11. Volleyball of the Rockies (VOTR)

Speaking of volleyball, you’ll find Volleyball of the Rockies to be a fun outlet.

Starting as a 12-team league in 1989, VOTR has morphed into the largest grass volleyball league in Denver, with spring, summer, and fall leagues for all skill levels. Not only can you play two-on-two, four-on-four, and six-on-six in grass leagues, but there are also indoor and outdoor sand leagues. Plus, there are four-on-four and six-on-six hard court leagues. Play the way you want!  

At the VOTR sponsor bar, there is a cornhole league for male and female players, with free beer provided to participants. 

12. Rocky Mountain Bar League 

VOTR is a sponsor of the Rocky Mountain Bar League, which takes place at the Dive In on South Broadway. 

Not only is there the aforementioned cornhole league, but there are also beer/bar pong leagues to help you relive your college shenanigans. Furthermore, there are bowling leagues at Moe’s BBQ and Bowling where you can throw strikes, clink bottles with friends, and escape the cold weather. There are summer bowling leagues too, with a pair of poker nights for each league and holiday-themed nights. 

You can even join a Mario Kart 64 league and show off your video game chops!

13. Island Beach Volleyball 

Located at The Island on Geneva St., Island Beach Volleyball has been offering competitive and recreation adult sports league since its opening in 1998. 

There are six indoor and two outdoor sand-filled courts on The Island, with two-on-two, four-on-four, and six-on-six leagues. Tournaments are year-round, and there's a full bar and grill to refresh after a game, plus they host special parties and events so you can mingle with other players. If you’re new to the game, there are clinics each Wednesday to teach you volleyball’s finer points.

14. Denver Curling Club 

For avid curlers, the Denver Curling Club has recreational leagues, competitive leagues, a women’s league, and double’s leagues for you to join. You can sign up for multiple leagues at the same time too. 

The Denver Curling Club was established in 1965 and is home to three women’s and two mixed national championship teams, some of whom have gone on to world championships. You can invite your co-workers to play in corporate events while also attending Learn to Curl events to sharpen your game.

15. Denver Gay and Lesbian Flag Football League 

This is a flag football outlet catering to Denver’s LGBTQ community. You can play seven-on-seven flag football leagues, with the fall season taking place from July until October. 

Since its formation in June 2008, the Denver Gay and Lesbian Flag Football League is one of the biggest of its kind in the U.S., with over 20 leagues and 300 players. There’s a lot of competition in this league, with league champs getting their deserved highlights at season’s end. But remember, the foundation centers on fun and inclusiveness.
