To keep it completely real, the Air Jordan 17 silhouette was the first good sneaker after the AJ14. The 15 and 16 are simply not attractive designs. Thankfully, the 17 is a good looking sneaker with a rich set of details attached to its origins. The jazz-inspired sneaker is coming back with black patent leather and it should still come equipped with the briefcase packaging that made it stand out back in 2002. Let's talk sneakers.

Where Can You Buy the Air Jordan 17 Low 'Black'?

The rush on all-black sneakers will likely push this one in the eyes and minds of sneakerheads. Also, the AJ17 is a solid performance basketball sneaker. I can imagine this one being the best of the upcoming Black Pack.

Two AJ17 Low releases in one year is unprecedented. The Black Patent drops August 8 at $250 with patent leather and chrome details. The Black Pack follows November 7 at $240 alongside the Air Jordan 15. Both are NBHD only.

What's the Jazz Connection?

Jazz and basketball have an understated connection. The flow of the sport has some of the same rhythm as the music. I love this connection to a great like Wilson Smith III.

Smith designed the AJ17 inspired by "the smooth lines and flow of a jazz solo." Music notes are molded into the lace cover, the Aston Martin influenced the silhouette, and the outsole mimics the aerial view of a golf course. The Air Jordan 16 'Black Pack' drops in the same collection but lacks this kind of design storytelling.

What Makes the AJ17 Stand Out From the 15 and 16?

The 17 is a wearable sneaker on the court, but it also passes as an everyday sneaker. All black makes it all the more wearable. At $200 it was the most expensive Jordan ever when it originally released in 2002.

It came packaged in a metal briefcase with a CD, a level of presentation no other sneaker had matched. The Air Jordan 14 Low 'Black Pack' is premium, but the 17's packaging puts it in a different category.

Should You Buy the Air Jordan 17 Low 'Black'?

I love this sneaker. If you have any taste for the AJ17, it's hard to imagine you not being interested in this one. The Black Patent version features croc-embossed eyestays and a chrome heel plate. The Black Pack version leans into faux exotic textures.

Both are limited. The Air Jordan 8 'Chrome' is another fall release with chrome accents if you want variety in the rotation.
