46-year-old club pro makes cut at PGA Championship

Most casual golf fans haven't heard of Michael Block, but you're going to hear plenty from him this weekend at the 105th PGA Championship.

The 46-year-old will not only be looking to be the first club pro to finish in the top 20 at the PGA since 1988, but following his second straight round of 70 at Oak Hill, he may very well enter the weekend on the leaderboard. He's done so despite giving us one of the more relatable moments of the week, a shank on the 165-yard par three fifth hole that went hard right, hit a tree and just barely made it halfway to the green.

The head pro at public course Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in Mission Viejo, Calif., has certainly seen several of his clients hit shots like that, but he somehow managed not to let the moment get to him. Despite a double bogey there, he parred out the final four holes to shoot even for the day and sat in 10th place by the time his round concluded.

He talked to the press after the round and said he accomplished a lifelong goal to make the cut at a major.

Play continues at Oak Hill in Rochester, N.Y., throughout the day, with the third round beginning Saturday morning. Keep track of all the live scoring here.
