Australian Adam Scott said Wednesday that "emotions have cooled" over the proposed PGA Tour-LIV Golf alliance but added players are still "working to get over the surprise" of the announcement two weeks ago.

However, Xander Schauffele retorted that it "probably wouldn't be too hard to re-heat the soup."

The players made the comments in Cromwell, Conn., site of this week's Travelers Championship, the final designated event on this season's PGA Tour calendar.

The comments also came after a meeting Tuesday night of the Tour's Player Advisory Council.

"I think the player meeting went well last night from where the player meeting was two weeks ago," Scott said. "I think some of the emotions have cooled. There are still lots of questions to be answered because we really only have this framework that was announced."

Scott intimated that there are at least some who saw a merger coming to "stabilize things," just not this soon.

"It was just sooner than maybe anybody thought. That's all," Scott said. "I think, yeah, things are calmed down and things were more calm in the meeting yesterday. Guys still have tons of questions.

"I'm caught up emotionally because I stayed on the PGA Tour and this looks -- and it was put to us that if we left we were never coming back, and it seems there is going to be pathways back," Scott added. "Eventually we'll find out if that's the best for the game and how we feel. So I have some emotions about that, but kind of time often plays a big part in these things so see how it advances."

Schauffele was asked if he agreed with Scott's assessment that emotions had indeed cooled.

"Probably wouldn't be too hard to re-heat the soup, but, yeah, guys, Tour pros typically are pretty good at compartmentalizing and blocking out stuff and getting ready for game day," he said.
