Adam Scott tests positive for COVID-19, withdraws from Zozo Championship

The PGA Tour confirmed on Wednesday that 2013 Masters champion Adam Scott tested positive for COVID-19 and withdrew from this week's Zozo Championship held at the Sherwood Country Club in California.

“While it’s difficult news to receive – as I really looked forward to playing this week – my focus now is on recovery for the final stretch of the fall,” Scott, ranked 15th in the world, said for the Tour's prepared statement.

The 40-year-old hasn't competed in a tournament since finishing tied for 38th at the U.S. Open last month. First alternate Jim Herman replaces Scott in the Zozo field.

Earlier this week, world No. 1 Dustin Johnson confirmed that he also would not play in California following a bout with the coronavirus. He announced his positive result on Oct. 13 and was sidelined for both the CJ Cup at Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas and this week's event.

"While he is feeling much better, he is still a bit low on energy and feels it would be best to wait and resume his schedule in Houston," David Winkle, Johnson's agent, told ESPN via a text message on Monday.

As Bob Harig wrote for ESPN, Scott is now the 15th Tour player known to have tested positive for the virus since the pandemic first caused sports leagues around the world to halt action back in March. Both Scott and Johnson must report no symptoms and return negative test results to be cleared for the Houston Open at the Golf Club of Houston scheduled to begin on Nov. 5
