Embarrassing Ryder Cup goes from bad to worse for U.S.

On Saturday, the 2023 Ryder Cup went from bad to worse for the Americans when Brooks Koepka and Scottie Scheffler lost in the most lopsided match in the Ryder Cup foursomes history.

The European team of Viktor Hovland and Ludvig Aberg won 9 and 7, meaning the match was stopped with seven holes to play because the Europeans' lead was too big to overcome.

A photo of Scheffler following the beatdown perfectly encapsulates what the 2023 Ryder Cup has been like for the American side.

The historic loss by Scheffler and Koepka looks even worse after Koepka ran his mouth at Jon Rahm on Friday, calling the Spaniard a "child" after Rahm's frustration boiled over on the course when his shot on 17 came up short. "We're adults. We move on," said Koepka.

Unfortunately for Koepka, the Americans couldn't move on from a disastrous 7 1/2 to 2 1/2 deficit when he took the course with Scheffler in the foursome rout.

After the disappointing match, U.S. Ryder Cup captain Zach Johnson benched the pair for Saturday afternoon's four-ball session.

The U.S. has won only one match while halving three through Saturday morning. Europe seemingly has the 2023 Ryder Cup in the bag. If (or, more likely, when) the U.S. drops the event, Koepka's and Scheffler's historic defeat will be the lasting image of the American team.
