Golf best bets: 3 outright bets to target for the Travelers Championship

The U.S. Open has officially wrapped up from controversial Los Angeles Country Club. Congratulations to Wyndham Clark on an emotional major championship win, but he unfortunately wasn't on my betting card last week. Let's check out how my bets fared.

What went right: Two of my three longshot picks finished inside the top 10. Min Woo Lee cashed our +100 top-40 ticket and +300 top-20, while Harris English cashed at +140 for a top-40 and +450 for a top-20.

I went 3-2 with my best bets, and Ryan Fox was one stroke away from making it 4-1. It was a great week for plus-money props.

What went wrong: Outright bets. Two of my outright picks (Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa) finished inside the top 15, but Justin Thomas missed the cut in embarrassing fashion. I also took a shot on Dustin Johnson live, but he couldn't get the putter going on the weekend and finished T10.

I wasn't able to hit an outright bet at Los Angeles Country Club, so let's try to nail the winner at this week's Travelers Championship. Here are the three outright bets I invested in when the odds dropped Monday.

Patrick Cantlay +1200 (BetMGM)

No one loves TPC River Highlands more than Patrick Cantlay. The American has recorded five straight top-15 finishes at the Travelers Championship, and he's coming off a strong weekend that ended with a T14 at the U.S. Open. There are no weaknesses in Cantlay's game right now, and you can't deny the impeccable course history here.

Min Woo Lee +9000 (FD)

Min Woo Lee was one of my favorite longshots at the U.S. Open, and he cashed us out with an impressive T5 finish. The young Australian scored an invite to the Travelers Championship thanks to his top-10 finish at LACC, and I think his outright odds haven't caught up to how well he's playing.

Shane Lowry +10000 (FD)

Rogue number alert! Shane Lowry is +5500 at BetMGM and +6600 at Unibet and BetRivers. FanDuel is asleep at the wheel with this price, so I'd advise jumping on it as soon as possible. Shane Lowry has three top-20 finishes in his last four starts, and he's gained strokes off the tee in seven straight.
