Golf best bets: Long shots to target for the Mexico Open at Vidanta

If you love betting long shots on the PGA Tour, this is the week for you. Reigning champion Tony Finau is the clear favorite at +800 to win the Mexico Open at Vidanta, but there are only three other players in the field ranked inside the top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking.

This is a wide-open tournament, so it's a perfect time to let the triple digits fly. Here are two long shots we're targeting with outright and finishing position bets this week.

Harry Hall (+12500 Caesars)

Harry Hall isn't a great PGA Tour player by any stretch, but he clearly has a type. Whereas some men prefer blondes, Hall prefers coastal golf courses with Paspalum greens.

It's truly incredible when you break down his recent results. The Englishman has only four top-15 finishes in his last 35 PGA Tour starts, and three of them came on resort-style golf courses outside of the United States with Paspalum greens. One of those finishes was a T10 at Vidanta Vallarta in his debut last season.

Hall loves these slow, sticky surfaces and can pop in events with weaker fields, so we're riding the Paspalum expert this week.

Top-20 finish: +400
Top-40 finish: +125

Justin Lower (+17000 FanDuel)

Justin Lower isn't the Paspalum expert Hall seems to be, but he should fit this golf course well. Vidanta Vallarta is a long golf course that forces players to hit a ton of long irons throughout the week, and that's Lower's biggest strength.

The American ranked 11th on the PGA Tour last season in proximity from 175-200 yards, and he ranks 12th this season in proximity from 200-225 yards. His lack of distance off the tee will be a disadvantage this week, but we think his strong long-iron play can make up for that weakness.

Lower is worth a sprinkle at his juicy finishing position odds.

Top-20 finish: +500
Top-40 finish: +140
