Golf best bets: Wyndham Championship longshots to target

Well, we weren't able to follow up our Brian Harman outright with another juicy winner at the 3M Open, but we were still able to cash some juicy finishing position bets on Tom Hoge and Alex Noren last week. Let's hope for some similar results with my three favorite longshot targets for this week's Wyndham Championship.

Webb Simpson (+9000 FanDuel)

I don't think I love anything as much as Webb Simpson loves the Wyndham Championship. Simpson grew up about an hour away from Sedgefield Country Club, won his first PGA Tour event here in 2011, and even named his third daughter Wyndham.

In 14 career starts at Sedgefield, Simpson has a win, two runner-up finishes, and nine top-10s. He recorded five straight top-seven finishes here before last season when he had to withdraw after the first round. Simpson isn't in good form right now, but a return to his favorite golf course might be just what he needs. This is a great target for finishing position bets.

Chez Reavie (+12500 BetMGM)

A short, positional golf course that emphasizes precise iron play and putting over length? Sounds like Chez Reavie music.

Reavie has been on fire with his irons, as he's gained nearly 21 strokes on approach over his last five measured starts. The American's putter went cold in July, but he gained strokes on the greens in 10 straight events before then. Sedgefield is perfectly suited for Reavie's game because his lack of distance off the tee won't cost him many strokes. I think the 41-year-old is in for a good week.

Justin Lower (+22000 FD)

This is a similar handicap to the one that brought me to Reavie. Justin Lower ranks 144th on the PGA Tour this season in driving distance, but he's 13th in strokes gained: putting. His irons are also heating up, as he's gained strokes on approach four times in his last five starts.

Lower showed flashes of his ceiling with a T8 finish at the Rocket Mortgage Classic last month, and I think this is a good setup for him to notch another strong finish.
