Is the Brooks Koepka-Bryson DeChambeau feud really on hold?

In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, Ryder Cup captain Steve Stricker said he spoke individually with Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau about putting their ongoing feud on pause for the good of Team USA.

"They assured me that the team and the country and everything else that goes into this is their (top priority)," Stricker said. "As far as I'm concerned, it's been put to bed."

Wait, is that really it? Is the Brooks-Bryson beef really a thing of the past? Just like that?

From the looks of things, Koepka at least appears ready to comply with Stricker's wishes. "It's only a week," Koepka said of the Ryder Cup, via ESPN. "Look, I can put it aside for business. If we're going to be on the same team, I can deal with anybody for a week."

Although Koepka, with his usual panache, added in the same breath: "I'm not playing with him -- I'm pretty sure we're not going to be paired together. Let's put it that way."

DeChambeau hasn't commented on the matter, but he hasn't commented on much of anything recently. The No. 6-ranked golfer on the tour has declined all interviews since the press widely criticized him for his stance against being vaccinated against the coronavirus. (He had to miss out on competing in the Tokyo Olympics because he tested positive for COVID-19.)

The lack of media engagement, therefore, means it's harder to gauge whether Stricker's plea for peace got across to DeChambeau.

Stricker, for his part, did admit to SI that he won't push his luck and pair the squabbling competitors together at Whistling Straits next month.

"I'm not going to tell you there's no chance. But I don't see it happening, no," he said. "I don't think they want to play together."

So, for the time being, it does appear that there is a lull in the Brooks-Bryson debacle.

Whether peace and harmony can be sustained in the month leading up to the Ryder Cup is still a different story for another day.
