Jon Rahm is now in danger of missing the 2025 Ryder Cup

A fierce competitor on the golf course, Jon Rahm is one of the most valuable members of the European Ryder Cup squad. The reigning Masters champion is 6-3-3 in three Ryder Cup appearances, but he may not be on the team at Bethpage Black in 2025.

According to Telegraph Sport, Rahm has been suspended from one DP World Tour event and fined for every start he's made on LIV Golf. That total is already up to four. 10 tournaments remain on LIV's 2024 schedule, so the bans will continue to add up for the World No. 3 throughout the year.

How does this relate to the Ryder Cup? Well, Rahm is only eligible for the 2025 Ryder Cup because he's still a member of the DP World Tour, but he needs to play at least four events on the tour this season to retain his card. The more suspensions and fines he racks up, the less likely it will be for him to fulfill that four-start requirement.

We saw a similar scenario with Ryder Cup legend and fellow Spaniard Sergio Garcia, who joined LIV Golf in 2022. Garcia lost his DP World Tour card after joining LIV and couldn't play in the 2023 Ryder Cup in Rome. Rahm is now walking down a similar path.

The two-time major winner isn't the only defector who risks missing the 2025 event at Bethpage. Tyrrell Hatton, who signed on with LIV at the same time as Rahm and joined his Legion XIII team, is in the same boat.

Hatton is 5-4-2 in his Ryder Cup career. He and Rahm combined to go 3-0-3 in Rome, and they won both of their foursomes matches in which they were paired together.

These were two of the biggest keys to Team Europe's dominant victory against Team USA in 2023. The Europeans can't afford to lose two top performers with a trip back to U.S. soil on deck for 2025.
