LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman to visit Capitol Hill to discuss league with lawmakers

LIV Golf CEO and commissioner Greg Norman is set to visit the nation's capital this week to discuss the breakaway league's "business model and plans" with lawmakers, according to a report by ESPN's Mark Schlabach. Norman's trip to Capitol Hill comes on the heels of the LIV Golf Invitational Chicago, which took place from Sept. 16 to Sept. 18 and was won by Cameron Smith.

"LIV Golf is coming to the Hill this week to meet with lawmakers from both parties," LIV Golf spokesman Jonathan Grella told ESPN in a statement on Monday. "Given the PGA Tour's attempts to stifle our progress in reimagining the game, we think it's imperative to educate members on LIV's business model and counter the Tour's anti-competitive efforts."

Last week, the former two-time major winner said that LIV Golf had "no interest" in sitting down with the PGA Tour because "our product is working." The LIV Golf Series isĀ financed by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, yet has seen scores of former PGA Tour members defect in recent months.

Among them have been several high-profile names with major championships to their credit, such as Smith, Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau and Patrick Reed.

In an August federal antitrust lawsuit filed against the PGA Tour, lawyers for LIV Golf and a handful of its players accused the tour of "improperly suspending" members for playing in the controversial new league. Additionally, it accused the PGA Tour of "pressuring vendors, agents, broadcast partners and sponsors" to not work with LIV Golf.

The PGA Tour has denied the claims.
