PGA Championship: Jordan Spieth's odds long as future appears uncertain

There has been a bit of a cloud hanging over Jordan Spieth since he had to withdraw from the AT&T Byron Nelson last weekend. Now, his start at this week's PGA Championship has come into question — and it's having an impact on his status with oddsmakers.

The No. 10 golfer in the world is listed at 45-1 odds at DraftKings in the PGA Championship field less than 24 hours before he's set to tee off at Oak Hill East Course.

While those odds may seem quite long for a player with four top-10 finishes in his last six starts — including that thrilling second-place playoff finish at the RBC Heritage — the uncertainty of whether or not he will play in the event is clearly having an impact on his odds.

Spieth withdrew from the AT&T Byron Nelson just a couple of days before the competition due to a reported wrist injury, and it still isn't clear if the ailment continues to be an issue.

The Texas native was spotted practicing earlier in the week ahead of the major event, but there is still no indication whether Spieth will play or withdraw from a second straight tournament.

There is plenty of reason to pick Spieth up at those odds should he play, however. In addition to having a solid 2023 campaign thus far, he is also chasing a career grand slam this weekend and Oak Hill East Course is a good fit for his style of game. Should Spieth be healthy enough for four rounds, those long odds are certainly worth it.

If Spieth's wrist is holding up and he can start on Thursday, he will tee off in a featured group alongside Viktor Hovland and Shane Lowry. Tee time for that group is 8:22 a.m. ET.
