Phil Mickelson loses his caddie two weeks ahead of Masters

Phil Mickelson is making a major change to his team two weeks before the 2024 Masters Tournament.

On Tuesday morning, the six-time major champion announced on X that his younger brother and caddie, Tim Mickelson, is retiring. Tim has served as Phil's caddie for the past eight years and was on the bag for Mickelson's historic win at the 2021 PGA Championship at Kiawah.

"I've had some great accomplishments in my career and getting to share them with my brother Tim has been beyond special," Mickelson wrote in the post. "I'm very lucky to have had him on the bag for me the past eight years and as my brother for life.

"So much has changed since he was single and we started working together. He's found his life partner, Maranda, they've had their second son, and hopefully their family will continue to grow. While Tim is retiring from caddying, I'll always cherish the many great moments we've shared on the course and I look forward to many more special moments off the course too."

This decision didn't come at the best time for Mickelson considering The Masters is only two weeks away, but he's already found a replacement. According to Adam Schupak of Golfweek, Mickelson has tabbed veteran caddie Jon Yarbrough as his new bag man.

Yarbrough, who caddied for Scott Stallings for the past 10 years, will carry Mickelson's bag for LIV Golf Miami (April 5-7) and The Masters (April 11-14).

Mickelson is coming off a miraculous runner-up finish at the 2023 Masters, but he has only one top-25 finish in four LIV Golf starts this season.
