Peter Malnati , who is the PGA Tour policy board recently shared his views on the setup for LIV Golf’s teams and he’s not completely in the agreement of it. He found himself wondering if fans were really interested in who wins these team events and asked if there’s real need to force a team element into golf.
His comments suggest that he believes there might be gap between what LIV Golf is putting out there and whether or not audiences are invested in it. The possibility of bringing team golf to the PGA Tour made Malnati doubt about it and moreover show skepticism.
While speaking on the matter, Malnati said this via Playing Through:
I don’t know LIV, what they’re doing, but it seems like a forced team model to me…. Are there any fans that care which team won the tournament? I don’t know what fans of LIV want or care about, but are there any fans that care about who won it. Peter Malnati on LIV Golf.
While focusing and stressing on how challenging it would be to successfully involve team events into the already existing FedExCup seasons, he expressed his thoughts and also let know that he was open to any new fresh ideas. Eventually he is trying to show a fair minded perspective in his remarks. He is also acknowledging the potential for changes but the main focus should be on the need for strong proof to back any changes to the original PGA Tour’s organizational structure.
Malnati’s also shed light on the concept of how difficult it would be to have a balance in the professional golf and maintain the same balance between old traditions and new innovations. As the merger negotiations go further, all the stakeholders will have to settle on the disagreements between different viewpoints in order to make proper decisions that protects the overall integrity while at the same time taking risks for growth and development.
Peter Malnati’s claims PGA Tour should find a way for LIV Golfers to play in signature events
The vocal PGA Tour Player Director, Peter Malnati shared his personal thoughts on the upcoming future of the tour and mentioned that the key is to tackle the crucial internal occurring issues. After an outstanding performance at the Players Championship with a score of 66 on the moving day, Malnati has continued his protest by criticizing elite players for missing tournaments.
The signature event from TPC Sawgrass is missing some key players mostly in form of Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka and Cameron Smith, who have all left the circuit to play for LIV Golf. Malnati now wants to find a solution to see this suspended players play in this signature events.
It would be even better if we had Jon Rahm here. I’ll just say it. It would be even better. It would be an even better win. So that’s something that we as a membership and as leaders of the membership, we need to figure that out, how do we make this happen for people to come back, and do it in a way that has some semblance of fairness. Whether the 36-year-old’s wish will come true or not remains to be seen. The merger deal could play a major factor in this and unify the game. Recently, Commissioner Jay Monahan expressed confidence in the deal. However, the top boss refused to comment on when will this merger actually go through.
