Tiger Woods undergoes successful surgery after withdrawing from Masters

Tiger Woods underwent successful surgery on his right leg after he was forced to withdraw from the Masters earlier this month.

His social media account broke the news on Wednesday.

“Tiger is currently recovering and looking forward to beginning his rehabilitation,” the statement ended.

Woods made his record-tying 23rd consecutive cut at the Masters but was visibly hampered by the leg injury he first sustained during a January 2021 car accident. He withdrew from the event on the first hole of the third round.

When speaking to reporters after the first round, Woods described the pain in his right leg as "constant." He added, "Hop on the left leg is fine. If I did it on the other one, not so fine."

He made his return to competitive golf at the 2022 Masters, finishing 47th, his worst finish at the event. After withdrawing this year — and considering his troubling injury history — it was fair to wonder if we'd seen the last of Woods at Augusta.

NBC Sports detailed his injury history prior to his return at last year's Masters, which includes (but is not limited to) an ACL tear, ruptured Achilles, and multiple back surgeries.

Based on Wednesday’s statement, Woods might have another comeback in him. He’s bounced back many times before and shouldn't be counted out to do it again, even if it's never felt more improbable.
