Golf legend Tiger Woods was involved in a brutal single-vehicle accident Tuesday morning on the border of Rolling Hills Estates and Rancho Palos Verdes in California.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the automobile Woods was driving rolled over and responders needed to use the “jaws of life” to get him out of the vehicle.

The one question that seemingly everyone had, however, was: what led up to the crash?

Although details remain scarce at the moment, one interesting detail has emerged which shines a light on what may have happened.

According to Fox News broadcaster Bret Baier, Woods was heading out to meet NFL quarterbacks Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints and Justin Herbert of the Los Angeles Chargers for a playing lesson. He was running late at the time of the incident.

This past weekend Woods worked as the host of the PGA Tour’s Genesis Invitational. The 45-year-old was photographed with multiple celebrities, including former Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade and actor David Spade, to whom he was reportedly giving golf tutorials.

Woods has not participated in a golf tournament as a competitor this season after undergoing back surgery.

Despite that, he has made the news for extremely humanizing acts like introducing his son to the game of golf, proudly showing off his girlfriend and speaking extremely openly about the last few years of his career.

Whether he’s playing or not, Woods remains the biggest name in golf. Additional details on his recovery should be made available in the coming days. At that point, a clearer picture of when and if he will be able to return to the green will likely emerge.
