Travelers Championship best bets: 3 juicy longshots to target

The PGA Tour heads to TPC River Highlands this week for the Travelers Championship, which will play nothing like the U.S. Open. Los Angeles Country Club was a beast of a golf course at longer than 7,500 yards, whereas TPC River Highlands is the second-shortest course on the PGA Tour schedule at 6,849 yards.

And what's the best part about shorter courses? Longshots have a much better chance to get in the mix and possibly steal a win. So, let's check out my three favorite longshots for the Travelers Championship and go through how I'll be betting them.

Brian Harman +8000 (BetMGM)

Brian Harman is on the edge of longshot territory at 80/1, but I have to mention him because of his impeccable record at TPC River Highlands. In Harman's last five starts at the Travelers, he's recorded four top-eight finishes. The lefty ranks third in this field in strokes gained per round at this course over that span, per Data Golf. He's a great target for some placement bets this week.

Chez Reavie +25000 (BetMGM)

Chez Reavie perfectly fits the mold as a horse for the course this week. In 12 career starts at the Travelers, the veteran has recorded 10 made cuts, five top-25 finishes, and a win in 2019. Reavie also enters the week in good form, as he's gained strokes putting in nine straight starts and has only missed one cut in his last eight events. I smell another strong finish at Reavie's favorite track on Tour.

Adam Schenk +27000 (FD)

I'm throwing out Adam Schenk's missed cut at the U.S. Open last week, mostly because he doesn't have the length or accuracy off the tee to compete at a course like LACC. Before the U.S. Open, though, Schenk finished T7 at the Memorial and lost in a playoff at the Charles Schwab Challenge. The 31-year-old has gained multiple strokes on approach and on the greens in three straight starts, and those will be the two most important factors in what should be a birdie fest this week.
