U.S. Open win helped Wyndham Clark land historic payday

Wyndham Clark posted an unprecedented win at the 123rd U.S. Open Championship at Los Angeles Country Club. However, Clark not only earned his first PGA Tour major win, but he also secured the bag.

After winning the U.S. Open and the $3.6M purse that comes with it, Clark has earned $7.2M over his first two career PGA Tour wins, more than any player in history, per ESPN Stats and Info

Clark tops the previous mark-setter, Matt Fitzpatrick ($6.8M), who finished tied for 17th at this year's U.S Open.

According to his PGA Tour bio, Clark has made $11.4M as a pro. As sports biz guru Darren Rovell pointed out, Clark accumulated 31.5% of his career earnings this week alone.

After 133 straight outings without a win, Clark captured his first PGA Tour win in May. Clark's victory at the Wells Fargo Championship paid out $3.6M, more than half of his career earnings at the time.

Money isn't everything, and it's clear Sunday's win meant way more to Clark than what it will do for his bank account. On Father's Day, Clark's mother, who he lost to cancer as a teenager, was on his mind. After his emotional victory, Clark said he felt she was "watching over" him.

Before Sunday, Clark's best finish in a major championship was 75th in the 2021 PGA Championship. Entering the day tied with Rickie Fowler (-10) for the lead, Clark was cool as a cucumber in the final round, holding off Rory Mcllroy and Scottie Scheffler, securing the win with a putt for par on 18.
