Three-time major champion Jordan Spieth had an eventful day during Round 1 of the Valero Texas Open on Thursday. Despite this, the American golfer playing in his home state of Texas, recorded an impressive hole-in-one at the 16th hole.

Jordan Spieth did not seem too pleased with himself as he walked towards the 16th tee. This was due to the fact of the double bogey which he had suffered at the par-5 14th hole. The score of 7 on this hole took him 4-over for the event.

However, things changed when he hit a perfect shot at the 199 yards par-3 16th hole. His shot would take a couple of bounces before rolling in the cup to a massive pop from the crowd present at TPC San Antonio.

This turned out to be Spieth’s third ace on the PGA Tour. After the round, the 30-year-old admitted that he might not have aced the hole had he not changed his 7-iron club.

I had to take some off of a 7-iron and so I lined up to hit like a 185 shot and hit a little fade with the wind that kind of was able to ride the slope then. I hit it and I picked up the tee, because I did what I wanted to do. Jordan Spieth on his ace as per PGA Tour.

Spieth finished the round with another birdie and a par on the 17th and 18th hole respectively. His score of 1-over 73 has left him tied for 80th spot.

Jordan Spieth admits to being ‘extremely frustrated’ after recent slump in form

With the 2024 Masters at the Augusta National less than a week away now, this is a time where golfers want to perform better so that they can carry this momentum into the first major. However, things have being going in the wrong direction for Jordan Spieth who has now admitted to be ‘extremely frustrated‘ with his recent slump in form.

After finishing third at The Sentry, Spieth has struggled with his game. A T39 and T30 finish at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and the Arnold Palmer Invitational was followed with two consecutive missed cuts at The Players Championship and the Valspar Championship.

On top of this, he was even disqualified from the Genesis Invitational for rules breach. With him currently at T80 after the first round, he faces the likely possibility of missing another cut and having another bad week.

I’ve played way worse and had consecutive top-10s than the missed cuts that I’ve had...Like my game feels fine and I’m just not getting much out of it. It’s extremely frustrating because I drove the living pi-- out of the ball today and I picked the wrong line on 14 and it’s the one drive I missed honestly like five, six yards right of where I was looking and then I don’t find it. Jordan Spieth said on his form in a press conference.

How does Spieth manage to bounce back from this setback is something many are looking forward to. It could become a great story if he does manage to come back, make the cut and somehow emerge as the winner in his home state of Texas.
