What we learned on Day 3 of the Masters

The third round of the Masters wrapped on Saturday with Scottie Scheffler holding a one-shot lead.

Here is what we learned on Saturday.

There is a lot of money at stake

We learned on Saturday that there will be a record $20M purse at this year's tournament and that the winner is going to take him $3.6M on Sunday evening.

Last year's winner, Jon Rahm, won $3.2M on an $18M purse.

This year's totals also represent a 33% increase from two years ago when Scheffler won $2.7M.

Tiger Woods is not going to win

When Woods made the cut to extend his streak at Augusta, he seemed to have a sense of optimism that he could still win the green jacket. And why not? He's won it five times, and professional athletes are always going to go into competition with a belief that they are going to win.

But it was clear on Saturday that Woods' body is just not going to allow him to compete the way he wants. Or has in the past.

He finished Saturday's third round shooting 82, the worst round he has ever had in August. It is also just the third time in his career that he failed to break 80 in any major tournament.

Scheffler rebounds to finish strong

At one point on Saturday, Scheffler was off his game and a few shots off the lead. Some putting issues were creeping back into his game. But he finished strong including a birdie on the 15th and 18th holes. He ended up shooting a 71 on the day and a one-shot lead going into Sunday.

Last year's winner, Rahm, is tied for 28th at five over.

Ludvig Aberg is still chasing history

Thanks to his impressive 70 round on Saturday, the 24-year-old is still in it and just three shots off the lead. He is trying to become the first person since Fuzzy Zoeller in 1979 to win the Masters in his first major championship.
