Why isn't there a 2024 LIV Golf schedule yet?

With LIV Golf's sophomore season now in the books, fans of the rogue league are no doubt eager to see what the next season has in store.

Only they can't do that, because there is no 2024 schedule yet.

The Saudi Arabia-funded golf circuit is expected to continue regardless of whether it has to merge with the PGA Tour at some point, so a schedule for next season should be coming, right? CEO Greg Norman has hinted as much, saying back in June in an email obtained by the Washington Post that a 2024 schedule was "nearing completion, which will feature world-class venues both familiar and new, continuing to bring out the very best in our players." But nearly a month and a half later, that nearly-completed schedule is nowhere to be found.

So what exactly is the hold up here?

Before getting too worked up over the lack of announcement, fans should remember how long it took for LIV to release its schedule for this year. In fact, LIV Golf put off announcing its 2023 schedule multiple times before finally revealing it in late January. The hold-up could have been from difficulty in securing venues internationally, or could have been impacted by LIV not having secured a TV partner yet.

So now that LIV is partnered with the CW and has two seasons under its belt, why is finalizing a schedule still taking so long?

The best guess is that the proposed merger with the PGA and DP World Tours is having an impact. The PGA's 2024 schedule was released at the beginning of August, and the European circuit disclosed its own schedule just this week. It's possible that LIV has some or most of its schedule in place and didn't want to finalize anything and risk going up against major PGA or DP World Tour events -- especially if it means battling for TV ratings, because we saw how that worked out this season.

Golf fans should keep their eyes peeled as there is no timetable for LIV Golf to release its schedule for 2024. It could be announced this month just like the PGA Tour's schedule was. Or there could be a repeat of this season where the schedule isn't released until a month before the season starts. It's anyone's guess at this point.
