Former Augusta National Employee Sentenced To Year In Prison

The 2025 Masters is still a few weeks away, but a former employee at Augusta National Golf Club managed to make headlines this week.

Richard Globensky, 40, was sentenced to one year in federal prison this past Wednesday. This came after he pleaded guilty to transporting and transferring stolen merchandise from the Masters.

Globensky reportedly sold the stolen merchandise, which included Arnold Palmer's Green Jacket from 1958, to an online broker for over $5 million. That broker then resold the items to a few buyers, which included Kenley Matheny of MMO Golf.

Interestingly enough, MMO Industries is registered to the same address as The Golf Auction, a golf-related auction house.

From cllct's report:

When reached for comment, The Golf Auction told cllct much of the story was based “solely on a convicted individual’s account.”

“Nearly all items were consigned or purchased over 10 years ago and were properly documented with a complete paper trail,” The Golf Auction said in a statement. "The Golf Auction will not profit from any stolen goods and have assisted the FBI in their investigation and securing the return of select items. There have been no charges filed against any individuals associated with The Golf Auction.”

As of this time, Matheny has not been charged. Globensky, on the other hand, will be spending the next year of his life behind bars.

Globensky started working at Augusta National Golf Club as a warehouse assistant in 2007. Clearly, his tenure went off the rails.

"The funds Globensky obtained enabled him and his spouse to live a lifestyle far beyond their means," assistant U.S. attorney Brian Hayes. "The manner in which he spent the proceeds suggests greed was his primary motivation for committing the offense."
