Phil Mickelson may remove himself from PGA Tour lawsuit now that 'LIV is involved'

On Thursday, Phil Mickelson suggested he might remove his name from the antitrust lawsuit against the PGA Tour in early August.

Mickelson is one of 11 golfers named in the lawsuit, which claims the PGA Tour unfairly suspended players who participated in LIV Golf events while using their position to competitors down.

On August 27, LIV Golf joined the amended lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Northern California.

"I haven't done anything yet, but now that LIV is involved, it's not necessary for me to be a part of it," Mickelson told reporters Thursday, via ESPN's Mark Schlabach. "I currently still am [part of the lawsuit]. I don't know what I'm really going to do. The only reason for me to stay in it is damages, which, I don't really want or need anything."

Mickelson has been one of the more high-profile names leading the charge against the PGA Tour. He claims to have heard from "numerous" players on both sides who've benefited from recent changes to the golf landscape.

"Unless there was leverage, nothing was going to change," Mickelson said last week. And all players should be appreciative of what LIV is doing. The players on LIV for the opportunity they are getting. And the PGA Tour for the leverage that was provided to get these changes done."
