Golfer Nick Watney tests positive for coronavirus

Roughly 48 hours after the PGA Tour boasted about recording zero positive results among 954 on-site coronavirus tests over the past two weeks, one player has reportedly tested positive for COVID-19.

Nick Watney withdrew from the RBC Heritage after testing positive for the coronavirus, the PGA Tour confirmed:

Nick will have the PGA TOUR’s full support throughout his self-isolation and recovery period under CDC guidelines. For the health and well-being of all associated with the tournament and those within the community, the TOUR has begun implementing its response plan in consultation with medical experts including working with those who may have had close contact with Nick.

Watney is the first known PGA Tour member who has tested positive for COVID-19.

Friday's Tour development comes as COVID-19 outbreaks affected both the MLB and NHL. The Philadelphia Phillies confirmed the club has shut facilities located in Clearwater, Fla. down after five players and three staff members tested positive for the coronavirus this week.

ESPN's Jeff Passan reported the Toronto Blue Jays fear one player will test positive after showing coronavirus symptoms. Toronto has also temporarily closed its Fla. team facilities.

TSN's Bob McKenzie tweeted that the Tampa Bay Lightning recorded at least five positive results in the team's latest round of testing.
