The second leg of the Triple Crown, the Preakness Stakes, has taken place since 1873. Here we display the winner every year of the Preakness because a true horse racing fan would want to know the winner the year he or she was born — as well as all the winners that came before and after.

2021: Rombauer

Rombauer entered the race at 12-1 odds, but had a relatively easy win of 3.5 lengths. He finished with a time of 1:53.62.

2020: Swiss Skydiver

Swiss Skydiver became the sixth filly to win the Preakness. The race was run in October due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

2019: War of Will

War of Will claimed the Preakness by 1 1/4 lengths. The win was the first on that track for trainer Mark Casse.

2018: Justify

After taking home the first leg of the Triple Crown, Justify followed that Kentucky Derby win with another victory in the Preakness. Ridden by jockey Mike Smith, Justify won with a time of 1:55.93 on a muddy track.

2017: Cloud Computing

In the 142nd running of the Preakness, Kentucky Derby winner Always Dreaming had any hopes of a Triple Crown squelched quickly. With a time of 1:55.98, jockey Javier Castellano rode Cloud Computing to victory, giving trainer Chad Brown his first Triple Crown win.

2016: Exaggerator

After American Pharoah broke the Triple Crown drought in 2015, Exaggerator ensured there'd be no Triple Crown winner in 2016. The horse, ridden by jockey Kent Desormeaux, won the Preakness with a 1:58.31 time. Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist finished third.
