Rising racing star Josh Pierson outlines career aspirations

At 18 years old, Josh Pierson is one of racing's most intriguing prospects. He holds the title as the youngest driver to ever race in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and he is competing in the Indy NXT series for HMD Motorsports in 2024. But he already has big goals for the future.

In an interview on Monday, Pierson stated that there are two trophies he'd most like to have in his collection when his racing career is all said and done.

"There's two photos in the scrapbook I'd like to have for sure, and that's an IndyCar championship and a win in the Indianapolis 500," Pierson said. "I'm a driver that wants to win a lot of different races. There's a lot of cars I want to drive and a lot of events I want to go to. There's a lot of events I want redemption at. There's a lot that I'd like to accomplish. The question is, can I complete it all? I don't know."

Pierson said that there are two crown jewel races that he especially wants redemption in.

"Le Mans and Daytona are two I'd really like to have in my (trophy) collection. I think those two have kind of eluded me. Last year, at both Le Mans and Daytona, we were really close. We were in the lead with 20 minutes left in Daytona. In Le Mans, we got to the lead at midnight with Tom (Blomqvist) and drove away for bit, but then Tom dropped a wheel and unfortunately, some gravel cut the brake line and we had a brake failure. So I think those two eluded me, and I really want some redemption for those."

Pierson also said there's one trophy he'd really like to have that most fans wouldn't expect him to be hungry for.

"I'd really like to win the Bathurst 1000," Pierson said. "I've always loved watching the Australian Supercars on TV."

Regardless of whether or not Pierson accomplishes all of his goals, racing fans are sure to be hearing his name for years to come.
