A new season means it's time to switch up your makeup routine. Make it easier with these 20 tips for a spring look.

Go rosy with blush

Classic spring makeup looks are feminine and floral. Evoke that feeling by using a rosy blush. Spring is the season of blush, so find a few in pink and red shades that you love and use them liberally.

Take blush across your nose

In the springtime, you can put blush just about anywhere on your face. After giving your cheeks a few good swipes, take the excess on your brush and apply it to your nose and even your chin and forehead for an ultra-rosy look.

Use liquid eyeliner for subtle freckles

Clean, chic, natural makeup looks are perfect in the spring, and a few fake freckles fit perfectly with that aesthetic. There are products made especially for fake freckles, but a liquid liner works just as well and saves money if you don’t intend to make it a regular step in your routine.

Swap dark shadows for pastels

If you’re struggling to transition from winter to spring makeup, swap your shadow preferences. Leave dark shadows in the cold months and welcome the warmer weather with pastel shades.

Swipe mascara sparingly

For springy daytime looks, use mascara conservatively. Instead of loading it on, use a few swipes for a wispy, natural look. Use formulas meant for lengthening instead of volume, as they’ll give a less intense finish. For an even subtler look, experiment with brown mascara.

Use shades with cool undertones

Cool undertones scream spring. No matter what shade you’re using, if it has a cool undertone, it’ll automatically read festive during this time of year, especially when paired with other cool shades throughout the look.

Find your perfect lip shade

For a supernatural spring makeup look, find your my-lips-but-better shade. It’ll give your lips a little extra color while remaining subtle. Pair it with a lengthening mascara and a tinted moisturizer for a simple springtime routine.

Underpaint with blush

For a super glowy and rosy look, try underpainting with blush. With this technique, you’ll apply heavy amounts of blush before foundation and concealer. The idea is that the blush will peek through your foundation in a natural way. If done right, it’ll give you lots of glow.

Swap black eyeliner for white

In the spring, ditch your black eyeliner for white. Whether you love graphic lines or lining your bottom waterline, use white instead for a fresh look that’ll make your eyes pop and leave you looking well-rested (even if you’re not).

Get a stamp

Spring is a great season for natural looks, but for the times you still want something bold, get a stamp. Flowers, lightning bolts, hearts, and other shapes are all fun for a night out, and they’re made simple when you have a stamp and only have to worry about placement.

Skip the falsies

False eyelashes add tons of drama to makeup looks, but in the springtime, leave them out of your look for a more natural take. If you can’t stand natural lashes, opt for wispy lashes over high glam.

Match lip and eye shades

You won’t always be advised to match your lip and eye shadow shades, but it makes for a super cool look in the springtime. It also makes it easier to get ready as you can use the same products on multiple parts of your face.

Ditch the harsh brow products

If you’ve been meaning to simplify your brow routine, spring is the season to start. Stop using your harsh pomades and pencils and stick to clear brow gel and pens to fill in where needed for a softer look.

Utilize your hands

Soft and natural are the words to live by for spring makeup looks. Your hands are the best tools for achieving those looks. You won’t be able to use your hands for absolutely every step of your routine, but foundation, concealer, blush, highlighter, and lip products can all be applied with your fingers.

Use all-in-one products

All-in-one products are perfect for springtime makeup looks. Whether it’s a palette with a bronzer and a blush or a stick that can be used on your eyes, lips, and cheeks, these products make getting ready a breeze and result in a cohesive, natural finish.

Swap shimmers for glosses

Save your shimmery shadows for summer makeup looks, and opt for glosses in the spring. Use these on your lips, eyelids, and cheekbones for a fun, bold yet light look.

Use pH products

Certain pigmented products work by responding to your pH balance to give you a natural and unique shade. Use these products in the spring for a simple look that you know looks natural. Not all pH products are made equally, though, so be choosy.

Invest in pigments

Instead of buying a new foundation to match your springtime skin tone, purchase a pigment that you can mix into your product to make it darker or lighter, depending on what you need. That way you can use up your winter foundation and transition into your summer foundation without having to purchase a third for the meantime.

Try non-touring

For a natural look that still accentuates your features, try non-touring. This technique prioritizes highlighting over contouring. It’s simple to achieve, and it cuts down on your total application time. Win-win.

Swap powder for setting spray

Embrace the natural glow you get with warmer weather and use setting spray instead of setting powder. You may need to use a different base product to make it work, but setting it with a spray will give your face a more natural finish, and it’ll be easier to touch up during the day.
