Another Thursday, another piece of hardware for Aaron Judge. The New York Yankees’ captain has officially added a third American League MVP award to his already crowded trophy case, cementing his legacy as one of the greats to ever wear the pinstripes.

This wasn’t a runaway victory, though. Seattle Mariners Catcher Cal Raleigh made it a real nail-biter, a genuine horse race that had fans on both coasts refreshing their feeds with nervous energy. In the end, Judge squeaked by, capturing 17 of the 30 first-place votes to Raleigh’s 13. A flip of just two votes, and we would’ve had a tie. It was that close.

Judge vs. Raleigh: A Classic MVP Debate

The 2025 AL MVP race was a fascinating clash of philosophies. What do you value more? On one side, you have Judge, a hitting machine who put up numbers that seem almost computer-generated. He led the AL in nearly every significant offensive category that matters: batting average (.331), on-base percentage (.456), and slugging percentage (.688). His overall offensive dominance was simply staggering.

Then you have Raleigh, the heart and soul of the Mariners. “Big Dumper” didn’t just hit—he launched 60 moonshots into the stands, setting a new single-season record for a catcher. He also drove in a league-leading 125 runs. And let’s not forget his Platinum Glove defense behind the plate, handling one of the most demanding positions in all of sports with grace and grit. In any other year, Raleigh’s historic season would have been a shoo-in for MVP.

But this year, he ran into the buzzsaw that is Judge. The voters sided with Judge’s all-around offensive excellence, a decision that will surely be debated in sports bars from the Bronx to Bellevue for weeks to come.

Another Legendary Season For Judge

Let’s be clear: we can’t take this level of dominance from Judge for granted. This is his fourth consecutive season with an OPS over 1.000, a mark of consistency that puts him in a class of his own. At 33, he’s not just maintaining his peak; he’s somehow finding new ways to elevate it.

He joins an exclusive club of Yankees legends, Joe DiMaggio, Yogi Berra, and Mickey Mantle, as the only players in franchise history to win at least three MVP awards. That’s not just good company; it’s the Mount Rushmore of Yankee greatness.

Of course, the one thing that still eludes Judge is that elusive World Series ring. While the individual accolades are nice, you know the ultimate goal for the Yankees’ captain is to bring a championship back to New York. Despite his heroic .500 batting average in the postseason, the Yankees once again fell short, this time to the Toronto Blue Jays. It’s a bitter reminder that even a player as monumental as Judge can’t do it all alone.

But for now, let’s celebrate the individual brilliance. Another year, another MVP for Aaron Judge. All rise.
