The Chicago Cubs announced Thursday the full schedule for the 2023 Cubs Convention, which will take place from Jan. 13-15 at the Sheraton Grand Chicago.

As you can see, the Saturday portion of the event could be spicy. For the first time since 2020, the Ricketts family will be at the convention to talk to fans in their “family session.” The last time Ricketts spoke to Cubs fans, he was met with a pleather of boos when discussing the launch of the Marquee Sports Network.

Who knows, maybe this time around the Ricketts family kicks the year off with a major announcement like the return of Sammy Sosa to Wrigley Field? Or perhaps he will announce a decrease in the price of a subscription for Marquee Sports Network? Then again, maybe the entire family gets introduced on stage, and each member enters by dribbling a soccer ball to hint at their purchase of a "football" club somewhere on the other side of the planet.

And to make things even more interesting, up to the plate after the Ricketts Family Session is a Baseball Operations Update with Cubs’ president Jed Hoyer and GM Carter Hawkins. Boy oh boy, get the popcorn ready, because depending on how this offseason goes until then, this could be the most talked about Cubs event since the 2016 World Series.

Could Hoyer show up, tears running down his face, and apologize to fans for potentially whiffing on signing any of the star shortstops in free agency? Then again, maybe he shows up and announces a blockbuster deal that excites Cubs fans so much that they forget which shortstops were available this offseason. Either way, it should be a very interesting and entertaining Saturday, to say the least.

On a side note, rumor has it that some of the Cubs On Tap crew will be in attendance for Cubs Convention 2023. Feel free to comment with any questions you’d like Hoyer and Hawkins to answer and we’ll do our best to ask them.

Not all of Cubs Convention will be full of potential tension and animosity, however. On Friday, Ryan Dempster will host Off the Mound, which will be followed by Harry Carayoke. After the aforementioned Saturday events, fans will have the opportunity to listen to Cubs’ manager David Ross and the rest of the coaching staff speak. Attendees will also get to hear a live recording of The Compound Podcast hosted by All-Star outfielder Ian Happ, play Cubs Bingo, and interact with Cubs minor leaguers. There will also be autograph opportunities and a panel featuring members of the Cubs’ pitching staff, just to name a few events. Things will finish up Sunday with a youth baseball clinic for kids.

2023 Cubs Convention tickets are on sale now, so come out and hang out with the guys over at Cubs On Tap.
