22 MLB clubs now at 85% vaccination threshold for relaxed COVID-19 protocols

COVID-19 vaccination rates across MLB have predictably slowed considering how long shots have been available to adults throughout the United States, but the league and MLB Players Association continue to provide positive updates as it pertains to completing an uninterrupted season.

MLB and the MLBPA announced Friday that 22 clubs have now reached the 85% coronavirus vaccination threshold among Tier 1 individuals that include players, managers, coaches, trainers and other essential employees who have direct contact with players. Twenty clubs were at the 85% vaccination mark that allows for the loosening of certain health and safety protocols at this time last week.

Additionally, 83.7% of all Tier 1 employees are now considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19, up from 82.9% last Friday.

Only one new MLB player and one staff member tested positive for the virus over the past week. One MLB player and one Triple-A player recorded positive results in the previous round of testing.

Unvaccinated players or other personnel who test positive for COVID-19 must isolate for a minimum of 10 days before they can be cleared to return to team activities.
