As the Los Angeles Angels are looking to revamp their roster following the departure of Shohei Ohtani to the Los Angeles Dodgers, two of their brightest young stars received arbitration bonuses this offseason.
Reid Detmers and Mickey Moniak will receive an arbitration bonus of over $250,000.
Moniak and Detmers played extremely well for the Angels last season and looked to be a key part of the organization's future core of players.
Reid Detmers 2023 Season in Review
Detmers began the season on the Angels' Opening Day roster last year and was dominant on the mound during the months of June and Sept.
In June, Detmers pitched with a 2.05 ERA while striking out 36 batters and holding them to an average of .167.
However, a lack of consistent play doomed Detmers throughout the season as his campaign ended with a 4-10 record and an ERA of 4.48.
Despite having those inconsistencies, Detmers finished the season on a high note pitching with an ERA of 1.82 and tossing 26 strikeouts in Sept.
Throughout his career, Detmers at times has shown he has everything to make him a bonafide future ace for the Angels. In 2022, Detmers threw a no-hitter for the Halos in May. Just two months later, he would also throw an immaculate inning.
Mickey Moniak 2023 Season in Review
In 2016, Moniak was drafted No. 1 overall in the MLB Draft by the Philadelphia Phillies. Six years later, he was traded to the Angels in exchange for starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard.
After struggling when called upon in Philadelphia, it turned out that all Moniak needed was a change of scenery.
In his first full year with the Angels, Moniak played in 85 games and was one of the most consistent bats in the lineup.
Last season, Moniak held a slash line of .280/.307/.495 with 14 home runs, 45 RBIs, and 21 doubles.
At the beginning of last season, Moniak was platooning all across the outfield but eventually found a home playing in center field once Mike Trout got injured in July.
He got 54 starts in center last year and showcased he has the talent to start in center everyday if the Angels would decide to move Trout to a corner outfield position to try and keep him healthier.
