A pair of injured Chicago White Sox’ players will be on the mend shortly. Catcher Yasmani Grandal and utility man Leury Garcia will begin rehab assignments with Triple-A Charlotte Friday.

Yasmani Grandal is dealing with inflammation in his left knee after hyperextending it in a game on Aug. 20. The veteran backstop avoided structural damage but went to the 10-day injured list on Aug. 21. The White Sox initially projected his return timeline at 10-14 days.

Leury Garcia landed on the 10-day injured list on Aug. 17 due to a lower back strain. The 31-year-old last appeared in a Chicago White Sox’ game as a defensive replacement on Aug. 16.

The pair will join the Charlotte Knights in Memphis, where the Sox’ Triple-A club will play the back half of a six-game series through the weekend.
