The Los Angeles Angels have made yet another offseason move, this time signing outfielder Brett Phillips to a one-year, $1.2 million contract.
After a disastrous 2022 season, the Halos have been busy this offseason, signing veteran left-hander Tyler Anderson to a three-year deal and utilityman Brandon Drury to a two-year contract.
They also acquired third baseman Gio Urshela from the Minnesota Twins and outfielder Hunter Renfroe from the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Angels have kept up with the rest of the American League West with their busy offseason and have now added a solid outfielder to their mix that already includes Mike Trout, Renfroe, Jo Adell, Taylor Ward, and others.
Bob Nightengale of USA Today tweeted the news of the Phillips signing.
Phillips, 28, split time with the Tampa Bay Rays and Baltimore Orioles in 2022.
The veteran outfielder hit just .144 with five home runs and 15 RBI.
The 28-year-old made his MLB debut with the Brewers in 2017 and was traded to the Kansas City Royals a year later.
Phillips was acquired by the Rays at the trade deadline in 2020 and had a key walk-off hit in Game 4 of the World Series that year, which immediately endeared him to Rays fans.
Phillips has only hit for an average above .250 once in his career, but did manage to provide some power for the Rays in 2021, hitting 13 home runs.
The Angels lost 89 games and finished in third place in the AL West in 2022.
With Shohei Ohtani under contract for just one more year, the Angels will look to improve in 2023.
