Aaron Boone: Darren O'Day's season likely over due to hamstring injury

The New York Yankees will be down a veteran reliever for the rest of the 2021 season.

According to Greg Joyce of the New York Post, Yankees manager Aaron Boone revealed Sunday that Darren O'Day's season is likely over due to the left hamstring strain he suffered during a pregame workout on July 6.

"I would say it's likely his season is over, but we'll have some more information on that when it's ready to give," Boone said.

O'Day also missed two months earlier this season due to a right rotator-cuff strain. The right-hander has pitched to a 3.38 ERA over 12 games, striking out 11 in 10.2 innings.

New York's bullpen has been solid this season, recording a 3.66 ERA despite injuries and a struggling Aroldis Chapman.

It's unclear if O'Day's injury will affect how the Bronx Bombers approach this month's trade deadline. MLB.com's Mark Feinsand reported Sunday that the Bronx Bombers are "checking in on outfielders everywhere" as the deadline approaches. It's unclear if the Yanks had previous plans to add a reliever.

The Yankees are fourth in the AL East with a 47-44 record, eight games behind the division-leading Boston Red Sox.
