After being traded to the San Diego Padres on Tuesday at the trade deadline, veteran pitcher Rich Hill is about to tie a record for having played for the second-most teams in baseball history.

Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:

the Padres will be Rich Hill’s 13th different MLB team, tying Octavio Dotel for 2nd-most in MLB history, behind only:

Edwin Jackson: 14

The 43-year-old Hill is 7-10 this season with a 4.76 ERA for Pittsburgh (and soon to be San Diego). He's been durable, tossing 119 innings. He's in his 19th year in the big leagues with those 13 teams teams: Red Sox, Dodgers, A's, Cubs, Twins, Mets, Rays, Angels, Guardians, Yankees and Orioles.

He's 89-69 overall with a 3.93 ERA in his career. His presence will help a Padres rotation that is currently dealing an injury to Michael Wacha, who was acquired this offseason.

It also signals the Padres are not ready to throw in the towel on a season they've gone all-in for. After getting to the NLCS last season and signing Xander Bogaerts this season, the Padres were expected to be World Series contenders.

Instead, they are 53-55 and 5.0 games back of the final wild card spot in the NL. That said, they are going for it. In addition to getting Hill, they also acquired Ji-Man Choi and Garrett Cooper.

The Padres will take on the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday afternoon at 3:10 p.m. ET.

Joe Musgrove pitches for San Diego while Kyle Freeland goes for Colorado.
