Agent Scott Boras proposes 'functional isolation' plan to resume baseball

Agent Scott Boras continues to come up with ideas on how Major League Baseball can resume its season amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Boras' plan would go something like this: about 60 coronavirus-free players and staff would gather in 30 separate isolation bubbles at or near their spring training facilities in Florida or Arizona, according to Michael Silverman of the Boston Globe. 

Families and visitors would not be allowed and the teams would stay in one hotel near the training facilities, shuttle back and forth together, and eat all meals together. Anyone who tests positive for COVID-19 would be immediately isolated until cleared to play.

“We can prepare a system that provides inspiration and do it in a responsible way that aligns with the standards of isolation," said Boras, according to Silverman. "I think it’s something that could be considered.

“We have many entities operating — our government, our police forces — in a ’functional isolation’ manner, and I think baseball should be no different.”

While this is a possibility, Boras adds that players would have to sacrifice a bit, but he believes they won't mind doing that because they'd be playing the game they love.

“Players might have to sacrifice a little bit with their isolation with where they stay," said Boras, "but they’re playing ball.”

Boras then said when all players are ready to go, games can be played in empty stadiums and be broadcast on television.

Of course the number of regular-season games to be played is up in the air with Opening Day having already come and gone, but if they can salvage at least some of the season with Boras' plan, then it's not a horrible idea.
