The St. Louis Cardinals may have already punched their ticket to the postseason for the fourth straight year, and Albert Pujols may have already hit his 700th career home run.

But the Machine isn’t done yet.

Since home run No. 700, Pujols has hit three home runs, all of which have come against the Pittsburgh Pirates, and one of which came last night at PNC Park.

With Paul Goldschmidt on first base, Pujols took a 2-2 pitch from Pirates starter Mitch Keller and hit it out to left field for home run No. 703, giving the Cards a 2-0 lead.

With that home run, he also passed Babe Ruth for second place on the all-time RBI list.

Albert With 703!

The Cardinals’ spot in the postseason may be secure, as is Pujols’ place in history.

But Albert keeps on hitting like he’s in his prime again.

With a resurgent second half, Pujols has the Cards’ designated hitter job down cold as we move closer to the postseason, and he’ll ride that hot bat into the Wild Card Series when it starts on Friday at Busch Stadium.

The home run was No. 24 on the season for Pujols.

With it, he improved his batting average to .269 and drove in his 65th and 66th runs.

At 42, Pujols have saved his best for the end of an unforgettable journey that he and all of Cardinal Nation have shared for so many years.

And as he rides off into the sunset with Yadier Molina, he continues to provide fans in all walks of life with memories that they’ll never forget.

Pujols may have some more historic home runs on the way in these last two regular season games.
