Alex Rodriguez: 'I’m not going to go to the Hall of Fame, probably, because of my own mistake'

Former New York Yankees superstar Alex Rodriguez had plenty to say during the alternate broadcast of Sunday's game between the Bronx Bombers and Boston Red Sox that aired on ESPN2.

Rodriguez explained he was "heartbroken" to learn that San Diego Padres All-Star shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. had received an 80-game suspension without pay for violating MLB's performance-enhancing drug policy ahead of the weekend. A-Rod, of course, famously earned what ultimately became a 162-game ban in 2014 after he admitted to using PEDs during his stint with the Texas Rangers, and he added during the broadcast that he has "no regrets, no excuses for my behavior."

The retired slugger who once seemed destined to be enshrined in the Hall of Fame also admitted he realizes he likely won't ever have a plaque honoring his career in Cooperstown.

"There’s probably no Hall of Fame. I’m not going to go to the Hall of Fame, probably, because of my own mistake. And that’s heartbreaking for me," Rodriguez noted, per Jesse Pantuosco of Audacy. "It’s heartbreaking to explain that to my daughters. But that’s on me. So I get to be now, hopefully, a better friend, a better businessperson, and, more importantly, a better father."

Pantuosco added that Rodriguez appeared on just 34.3% of Hall of Fame ballots this past January. A minimum of 75% of votes is needed for induction.

Officially speaking, Rodriguez began Monday fourth on the all-time home run list with 696 round-trippers. Such numbers clearly won't convince some voters that the 47-year-old wasn't cheating throughout the prime of his career.
