All-Star pitcher Lance Lynn, White Sox agree to two-year, $38 million extension

Fresh off his first All-Star selection since 2012, Lance Lynn has agreed to a two-year, $38 million extension with the Chicago White Sox, the team announced Saturday. The deal includes a club option for the 2024 season.

"We are thrilled to be able to keep Lance in a White Sox uniform for the next several seasons," White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said in a statement. "He very quickly proved himself to be not only an All-Star caliber addition to the front of our rotation but also the positive clubhouse presence that we envisioned at the time of the acquisition. We look forward to Lance continuing to be a big part of what we're hoping to accomplish not just in 2021 but now beyond."

Lynn, who has frequently discussed how much he likes being a member of the White Sox, has become a fan favorite in Chicago.

The 34-year-old is 9-3 this season with a career-best 1.99 ERA, 1.037 WHIP and 105 strikeouts in 90.2 innings. He was set to become a free agent after the 2021 season following a trade that sent him from the Texas Rangers to the White Sox in December.

Lynn has also spent parts of his 10-year career with the St. Louis Cardinals, Minnesota Twins and New York Yankees.

The White Sox enter Saturday's game against the Houston Astros leading the AL Central with a 54-36 record. They're eight games ahead of the second-place Cleveland Indians.
