Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jo Adell is entering a crucial offseason in his career, and it could dictate his future in baseball. The Angels have been patient with Adell over the years, but the time is coming for him to step up.

Next season could be his last with the Halos, and General Manager Perry Minasian pretty much confirmed at the GM Meetings.

“He knows what’s at stake,” General Manager Perry Minasian said on Wednesday at the GM Meetings. “I’m looking forward to seeing him in the spring.”

This coming year will be his last chance to show the organization that he deserves to be with them. If he continues to struggle, the Angels will have no choice but to cut him loose. They don’t want to do that, but at some point, enough is enough.

He has been working with former big league outfielder Matt Holliday this offseason, as he tries to get himself ready for the new year. He hardly played for the Halos this past season but didn’t look great when he did get opportunities.

Adell hit .207 with three home runs and six runs batted in over 17 games this past season. He did deal with some injuries in the second half of the year that limited his playing time.

The one positive for Adell is that he has progressed well defensively, something that had been a problem for him at first. Minasian did praise him for it and is hoping to see more growth this coming season.

“I don’t know if I’ve ever witnessed in my career, somebody improve defensively as much as he has over the last three years,” Minasian said. “I think there’s some strides to be made offensively that he knows, that he’s working on as we speak.”

Adell doesn’t want this to be his last year with the Angels, so he will need to finally show what he can do. It’s put up or shut up time for the former first-round pick this season.
