After suffering a right calf injury, the Angels announced that Griffin Canning would be placed on the 15-day IL retroactive to July 29th.

The official Angels PR Twitter announced the move on August 1st among many other moves including outfielder Jo Adell's transfer to the 60-Day IL for his injury.

It's yet another blow to the Angels' health as has been a common theme this entire season. Alongside Adell and Canning as recent additions to the IL, Anthony Rendon, Mike Trout, and Taylor Ward have been just a few of the several names to hit the shelf in Anaheim.

Canning started 16 games for the Halos before hitting the shelf and compiled a 6-4 record with an ERA of 4.46 and 91 Ks on the year. The 27-year old righty was scheduled to make his next start in Atlanta before being scratched with "general soreness".

Despite the injuries across the board for the Angels and the swirling questions around Shohei Ohtani's future with the team, the front office decided to buy at the deadline to pursue a wild card position.

The Angels acquired pitchers Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez from the Chicago White Sox earlier this week and Giolito's addition to the staff especially should help the rotation stay afloat in Canning's absence.

On the other side of the ball, the Angels also traded for first baseman CJ Cron and outfielder Randal Grichuk from the Colorado Rockies before the deadline.

Cron played for the Angels early in his career while Grichuk made his own triumphant return to the franchise that drafted him with a homer in Atlanta 14 years in the making.

Finally, the team added RHP Dominic Leone at the deadline from the Mets, to further bolster the bullpen.

Headlined by Shohei Ohtani coming off another major award to end July, the Angels are all in to get to the postseason for the first time since 2014.

Despite Canning's move to the IL, the Halos' push for playoff baseball in Orange County remains a go.
