Could Kolten Wong end up in the City of Angels? Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Angels interested in free-agent second baseman Kolten Wong?

It appears the Los Angeles Angels are interested in upgrading at second base for the 2021 campaign after shortstop Andrelton Simmons hit free agency, weakening their infield lineup.

According to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Angels have contacted Kolten Wong in hopes of signing him.

Wong, a 2020 Gold Glove finalist, hit the open market after the St. Louis Cardinals declined his $12.5 million option last week. The 30-year-old averaged .265 at the plate with 16 RBI and one home run last season.

Wong is among a list of talented free-agent infielders including Jonathan Schoop, Tommy La Stella, Carlos Santana, Cesar Hernandez, Justin Turner, Didi Gregorius, Marcus Semien and D.J. LeMahieu, among others.
