Los Angeles Angels left-hander Reid Detmers made his presence known back in May when he threw a no-hitter against the Tampa Bay Rays.

However, since then he has struggled, and he has seen his ERA go up to 4.66 on the season.

The 22-year-old was demoted to Triple-A on Wednesday after having gone 1-2 with a 4.25 ERA in his previous seven starts.

Angels interim manager Phil Nevin was asked about Detmers’ demotion and sounded off on the turn of events.

Nevin said that things had sort of snowballed for him, but he preached confidence in the left-hander and said he believes it’s ultimately a learning curve for him.

Nevin Preaches Confidence

Nevin is saying all the right things.

He knows that Detmers has great potential and that it was on full display when he no-hit the Rays.

It’s just been a struggle recently for the young left-hander.

Nevin understands that every pitcher goes through rough patches and that Detmers is going through one of them right now.

Baseball is a game of ups and downs and ebbs and flows.

Detmers just found himself in a bit of rough stretch.

But Nevin also understands that there is plenty of greatness in Detmers that was on full display during his no-hitter.

That is the kind of pitcher that Nevin and the Angels know Detmers can be.

Perhaps just a stint in the minors will help him rediscover his form and begin pitching like the Angels know he can again.

Sometimes that can help a player, and we’ll see if that ends up being the case for Detmers.

The Angels will need him back at his full form if they are going to turn it around and contend for the postseason.
