Angels' Mike Trout out through at least All-Star break with calf strain

It was reported last month that Los Angeles Angels superstar and three-time American League Most Valuable Player Mike Trout would be sidelined for six to eight weeks because of a right calf strain he initially suffered on May 17.

Trout's recovery timeline won't be shortened.

Per ESPN, Angels manager Joe Maddon told reporters ahead of Monday's game against the New York Yankees that Trout is "on pace" and "on track" as it pertains to his eventual return to the lineup but added that the 29-year-old will be out through next month's All-Star break.

Following the All-Star festivities, Trout will complete a minor league rehabilitation assignment. He was moved to the 60-day injured list on Monday, which makes him ineligible to play for the Angels before July 17, when they host the Seattle Mariners.

Trout was batting .333 with eight home runs and 18 RBIs and leading MLB with a 1.090 OPS when he went down. Without him, the Angels began Monday evening at 37-40 on the season and fourth in the American League West standings, 10.5 games back of the first-place Houston Astros.
