MLB offseason rumblings are heating up as one notable name draws significant attention on the West Coast. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, former Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson has emerged as a target for the Los Angeles Angels after the Sox declined his 2024 option.

The Angels, eager to revamp their infield and fortify their lineup after once again missing the playoffs, are reportedly contemplating a strategic move by transitioning Anderson to second base.

Despite a challenging 2023 season that saw Anderson's OPS plummet to a career-low .582, it seems Angels' general manager Perry Minasian believes the 30-year-old's down year is not indicative of his future performance. The general sentiment of a bounce-back aligns with the GM's philosophy of winning "in different ways," as stated on MLB Network.

The White Sox are facing a likely payroll reduction after a disappointing 101-loss season and have been forthright about reshaping their roster. GM Chris Getz's blunt assessment that the team is talented yet unbalanced paved the way for Anderson's free agency and has seemingly opened a door for the Angels.

Los Angeles finished 18th in batting average among MLB clubs this past season. Anderson, despite his recent struggles, is a former batting champion who hit over .300 from 2019 to 2022, illustrating a track record of offensive consistency that the Angels are sorely lacking. However, a return to form isn't a guarantee for Anderson.

The prospect of Anderson joining forces with shortstop Zach Neto could provide the Angels with a dynamic middle-infield combination that bolsters both their defensive capabilities and offensive output. In doing so, Anderson would not only find a new home but a crucial role in anchoring the Angels' infield alongside Neto, eclipsing incumbent second baseman Brandon Drury.
