Angels star OF Mike Trout downplays back condition: 'My career isn't over'

Los Angeles Angels fans can take a deep breath.

On Wednesday afternoon, Angels trainer Mike Frostad sent shockwaves throughout baseball, revealing that All-Star outfielder Mike Trout was diagnosed with a "rare," possibly career-changing, back condition.

After the Angels' 4-0 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday night, Trout cleared the air about his injury.

"Yeah, I think it's a little exaggeration," Trout said. "I was just talking to my dad, going to my phone. Getting a lot of — appreciate all the prayers, but my career isn't over. No, I'm not worried about it. It's just one (of) them things, you play, you swing a lot, and things pop up. And I've been playing through it for a little bit, and it just got to a point where, it just was time to figure it out. And we figured it out. And it's going in the right direction."

Trout has been out of action since exiting a game early on July 12 with back spasms. A week later, the Angels placed Trout on the 10-day injured list with "left rib cage inflammation."

While there is no timeline for Trout's return, he will reportedly see back specialist Dr. Robert Watkins on Sunday for further evaluation.

The three-time MVP is batting .270/.368/.599 with 24 home runs and 51 RBI in 79 games for the Angels this season.
